Trend to Try: Orange Lips
At the New York Fashion Week back in September, the runway was filled with orange lips. Put away your army of red's and pink's and check out NYFW Designer's favorite lip color for spring and summer 2014.
Rag & Bone
Rag & Bone showcased this tangerine lip on their models and it was a pretty big deal seeing as it was the first time they used a non neutral lip color with their "just rolled out of bed" aesthetic. According to totalbeauty.com, makeup artist Gucci Westman "Red was to pretty; pink was too sweet." Westman used Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in 'Carnival' layered with Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Mischievous (both available at drugstores) to create the look. you can also order it here.
DKNY stood out from the other orange lips gracing the runway by going with a classic glossy finish. The best way to wear this glossy orange lip is with little to no eye makeup. Makeup artist Charlotte Willer used Maybaline New York Color Sensational Vivid's collection in #890 Neon Red (available now, yay).
With a ponytail and just a hint of flushed cheeks, this may be the spring/summers most effortless look yet. You can purchase this color at any drug/grocery store or is available to order here.
How I Rock the Look:
I am currently way into this color trend, nothing makes spring official quite like a bright tangerine lip. The look feels super modern at the moment because of springs graphic black, white and neutral clothes that make a fiesty pop of color especially beautiful. I am in love with Revlon's matte color balm in mischeivous it goes on well, stays on and provides ample color that you can layer.
The color has long lasting power and even after it fades, leaves a nice tint. I love the matte finish and will always be partial to that but the satin and gloss finish looks good if you take some pointers from DKNY and keep minimal makeup otherwise.
- I rock this look using Prestige Makeup Lip Liner in 'Poppy'
- I line my lips and color in about half way
- Then I layer about 1 or 2 coats of Wet n Wild #970 'Purty Persimmon'
* The best way to rock this look is with: bold brows,a hint of bronze on the cheeks, highlighter, and minimal eye makeup. Show me how you rock the look with hashtag:
